So while I am skeptical of the ability of so-called “Smart Drugs” cause a long-term increase in intelligence (the current ones, anyway), I do believe that many of these substances are of value in an anti-aging plan with specific focus on reduction of the aging of the brain.
Jump up ^ Clemow DB, Walker DJ (September 2014). “The potential for misuse and abuse of medications in ADHD: a review”. Postgrad. Med. 126 (5): 64–81. doi:10.3810/pgm.2014.09.2801. PMID 25295651. Overall, the data suggest that ADHD medication misuse and diversion are common health care problems for stimulant medications, with the prevalence believed to be approximately 5% to 10% of high school students and 5% to 35% of college students, depending on the study.
In the United States military, modafinil has been approved for use on certain Air Force missions, and it is being investigated for other uses. As of November 2012, modafinil is the only drug approved by the Air Force as a “go pill” for fatigue management. The use of dextroamphetamine is no longer approved.
These should be a starting point for you. To get the most of these compounds you need to experiement with different doses and take notes. Find out what works for you. I suggest you always start with a low dose and increase it slowly to find the sweet spot.
Description Dietary Supplement N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine is a more rapidly absorbed and bioavailable form of the amino acid L-tyrosine and is less prone to urinary excretion. L-Tyrosine is converted in the body to key biologic compounds including epinephrine dopamine L-dopa CoQ10 thyroid hormones and melanin. The B vitamins pyridoxine (B-6) and folic acid are provided to […]
It isn’t the drugs. It’s us. We’re medicating ourselves against what used to be considered the problems of everyday life. Sadness, anxiety, overwork. “We really have to look at ourselves as a society,” says Sahakian. “We used to have a childhood. What is causing such stress? And it’s a problem with all types of drugs. If you look at the use of painkillers, it’s enormous. We all believe in the power of the little white pill.”
Vinpocetine is known as the world’s most powerful memory-booster, thanks to its ability to increase oxygen-rich circulation to the brain, boost the ability of brain cells to produce ATP (adenosine triphosphate = cellular energy) and thereby makes neurons fire faster and more effectively for quicker thinking and greater clarity of mind.
It may also be necessary to ask not just whether a drug enhances cognition, but in whom. Researchers at the University of Sussex have found that nicotine improved performance on memory tests in young adults who carried one variant of a particular gene but not in those with a different version. In addition, there are already hints that the smarter you are, the less smart drugs will do for you. One study found that modafinil improved performance in a group of students whose mean IQ was 106, but not in a group with an average of 115.
Vinh Ngo, a San Francisco family practice doctor who specializes in hormone therapy, has become familiar with piracetam and other nootropics through a changing patient base. His office is located in the heart of the city’s tech boom and he is increasingly sought out by young, male tech workers who tell him they are interested in cognitive enhancement.
Becky, 19, now at Sheffield Hallam University, first took modafinil when she was 17. “My experience with study drugs is a bit of an odd one, because I actually used modafinil when I was in sixth form,” she admits.
In recent years, the productivity race among Silicon Valley types has given rise to myriad companies that hawk “smart drugs” online. These pills go far beyond familiar prescription stimulants like Adderall and Ritalin, long used and abused by college kids and Wall Street workers. Instead, the companies research obscure foreign powders and fill their capsules with everything from Ayurvedic herbs to krill oil.
Dr. Ana Aslan, director of the Institute of Geriatrics in Romania, developed Gerovital (GH-3) in the early 1950s. GH-3 has been hailed as a miraculous youth formula that combats the ravages of aging and makes people feel more energetic and youthful. It is claimed to reverse the aging process, and to improve thinking and memory by providing the nutrients needed to repair damaged cells and membranes.
A number of companies now market nootropic “stacks,” or formulas, some of which include piracetam, herbal remedies, amino acids and citicoline, a naturally occurring brain chemical that can be taken orally as a supplement, intravenously or as a shot.
In the nearer future, Lynch points to nicotinic receptor agents – molecules that act on the neurotransmitter receptors affected by nicotine – as ones to watch when looking out for potential new cognitive enhancers. Sarter agrees: a class of agents known as α4β2* nicotinic receptor agonists, he says, seem to act on mechanisms that control attention. Among the currently known candidates, he believes they come closest “to fulfilling the criteria for true cognition enhancers.”

You can keep your finger on the pulse of new smart drugs research by subscribing to Smart Drug News, a newsletter published by the Cognition Research Enhancement Institute (CERI). You’ll find more information about the newsletter in Appendix E of this book on page 185.
Piracetam is well studied and is credited by its users with boosting their memory, sharpening their focus, heightening their immune system, even bettering their personalities. But it’s only one of many formulations in the racetam drug family. Newer ones include aniracetam, phenylpiracetam and oxiracetam. All are available online, where their efficacy and safety are debated and reviewed on message boards and in podcasts.
Not that any university I get in touch with wishes to acknowledge this. It’s partly because there is a danger that articles like this, even with all the caveats, might encourage more people to try these drugs. Partly because there’s no good research being done into the numbers of students taking them, though there are all sorts of indices. In October, a record haul of smart drugs being traded over the internet was seized by the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Authority.
Centrophenoxine is an anti-aging drug widely used in Europe to increase brain energy. Centrophenoxine stimulates chemical activity of the brain, in particular the uptake of the sugar glucose is increased. Glucose is essential for energy production; oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production also increase significantly when Centrophenoxine is taken regularly. Centrophenoxine has also been found to be very effective in the treatment of various human disorders, such as brain damage due to old age, stroke, brain injury caused by chemicals or drugs including excessive alcohol consumption. Centrophenoxine has the ability to protect against the damage caused by modern toxic environmental chemicals. Dosage: 250 1 or 2x daily.
“As we get older, we become insulin resistant, and essentially we are all turning into diabetics,” Dean says. He details how a natural substance originating from lilacs can be used to regulate the body’s insulin production and thus blood sugar levels. Sugar is a pro-aging factor, according to the doctor, and this lilac-derivative can treat diabetes, burn fat, stimulate brain cell growth and extend overall lifespan.

The list below attempts to categorize the base benefits offered by nootropics. It is important to note, however, that the inherent benefits of this class of drug are not entirely researched and understood within the scientific community. This list merely outlines the most heavily hypothesized benefits of the drug-class.
Alpha Brain has used this in their stack alongside Huperzine A in order to create a potent, entirely natural stack. Vinpocetine serves primarily as an aid to other drugs. It is a catalyst and can magnify the effects of other neuro-enhancing substances.
